THEORY
Content – The syllabus as set out by SAS.

  • Introduction to basic navigation
  • Collision regulations
  • Basic meteorology
  • Bouyage
  • Lights

The theory exam is conducted at the end of the theory component and consists of  a Colregs paper and a navigation paper. The theory exam is included in the course fee.

Duration – Four consecutive days
Cost – R8,000.00

PRACTICAL
Candidate must be able to sail i.e. Comp Crew level.
For the SAS exam the candidate must have logged at least 200 nautical miles and have 2 night hours on watch and one night entry into candidate’s home port. SAS Approved Eye test and a valid SRC Radio certificate.

  • Safety briefings
  • Manoeuvring in and out of the Marina
  • Man overboard procedure
  • Practical navigation at sea
  • Anchoring
  • Going onto a mooring buoy 

Duration – Five consecutive days
Cost – R8500.00

Course fees exclude SAS exam fees, which are payable directly to SAS.

Combined Course Offered
The candidate must have logged at least 200 nautical miles and have 2 night hours on watch logged. This may not be achieved during the course in which case the candidate will be required to obtain this before taking the exam.
Content – As per Day Skipper Theory and Practical Courses.

Duration – Nine / Ten consecutive days
Cost – R15,500.00
